Marc Prensky- Digital Native

Marc Prensky is well known writer who came up with the term “Digital Native” and “Digital Immigrant”. Both terms were used to describe generations throughout the use of inventions and is use. A digital native is the generation of those who were born during the time newer technology was developed; this includes PC’s and the use of the internet and the use of the worldwide web, mobile phones etc. Digital natives are those who are more familiar with the new digital lifestyle due to the fact they grew up with it so it’s natural to them, it’s been picked up. Whereas, a digital immigrant Is someone who turns to secondary sources such as the internet for information second instead of first. A digital immigrant is most likely to read a book for secondary source information, rather than do what society would deem as normal and go online.

It’s been written by Marc Prensky that digital immigrants and digital natives ore of those who speak two different languages, although the digital immigrants try to grasp the newer language but end up with a different accent. An example to this a digital immigrant calling someone to watch a video online, rather than e-mailing it like digital native would do.

The video below goes into more depth of the ideology of both word "digital native" and "digital immigrant".

Intro Digital Cultures

Digital cultures, a subject I’ve never heard before but slowly learning about every week. Digital cultures varies from the way you live and do things e.g. Lifestyle, popular culture, music. To other forms of media like the internet, video games television, generally anything you can be interactive with.
